The Mission List

From Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the Americas; from debut filmmakers and veterans; in drama, documentary, animation and comedy (almost), here are 15 films I’d recommend you check out at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival.

All 15 will make their world premieres in Toronto. All, at the time of this writing, are available to distributors in the US and Canada. And, for me, all pursue the same simple ambition to which TIFF has committed: to “transform the way people see the world through film.”

Here’s my Mission List, in alphabetical order:

  1. BREAK LOOSE d. Alexey Uchitel, Russia
  2. CANNIBAL, d. Manuel Martin Cuenca, Spain/Romania/Russia/France
  3. CLUB SANDWICH d. Fernando Eimbcke, Mexico
  4. THE DOUBLE d. Richard Ayoade, UK
  5. THE FAKE d. Yeon Sangho, South Korea
  6. FAT d. Mark Phinney, USA
